Two AEW stars – including an notable talent who is currently out of action – have been confirmed for appearances at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20.
The final match of the January 4 event will see AEW’s Kazuchika Okada face Hiroshi Tanahashi in what will be Tanahashi’s final match.
The official main event of Wrestle Kingdom 20 will be a special ceremony which will take place after this match to honor the Ace, as he officially retires from in-ring competition.
NJPW has now confirmed that both Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay will be at this special ceremony.
NJPW shared the following on its official site:
After the final bell sounds on the Ace, Wrestle Kingdom 20 will close out with a special ceremony to honour Tanahashi’s career with special guests sending the Ace off.
Two of those guests will be past opponents now fighting in AEW rings, as Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay are both confirmed to be in attendance!
Will Ospreay stepped away from the ring following AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door in August to deal with neck and spine issues.
His most recent match notably featured Kenny Omega and Hiroshi Tanahashi, with this trio also teaming with Kota Ibushi and Darby Allin to defeat Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Gabe Kidd and the Young Bucks in a Lights Out Steel Cage match on August 24.
AEW/NJPW/DDT’s Konosuke Takeshita will also be in action at Wrestle Kingdom 20, defending his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against IWGP Global Champion Yota Tsuji in a Winner Takes All match.
