WWE Championship Creative Plans Thrown Off By Latest Management Decision

WWE Championship Creative Plans Thrown Off By Latest Management Decision WWE

WWE creative plans for one particular championship look to have been thrown off by the latest decision that’s come from the company’s upper management.

Up until last night (July 18), Wes Lee was scheduled to defend the NXT North American Championship against Mustafa Ali at the Great American Bash on July 30.

That storyline had been going since the end of May, but its planned culmination looks to have hit something of a stumbling block.

On last night’s episode of NXT, Wes Lee actually lost the North American Championship to Dominik Mysterio.

There’s no confirmation yet but it certainly seems like that was a decision made not by NXT booker Shawn Michaels, but by some configuration of the main roster higher-ups Vince McMahon, Paul Levesque (Triple H), and Nick Khan.

Khan specifically has spoken publicly about the strategy of integrating main roster talent with the main roster, and this is obviously another example of that.

There were no signs that Michaels was planning on not doing the Lee vs Ali match until now, so it appears his own creative plans for his own show have been completely thrown off by this decision.

Again, we don’t know who made the decision for sure, but it certainly seems like a main roster talent winning a championship in NXT would be something that comes from main roster creative, not from Michaels himself.

As of now, the preview for Lee vs Ali has been removed from the Great American Bash event page on WWE.com.

We will of course keep you updated on what the future plans are when that information becomes clear.
