Backstage Frustration Over Vince McMahon Scrapping WWE World Heavyweight Championship Plans From Raw WWE

Find out what was originally going to happen on Monday’s WWE Raw before Vince McMahon scrapped the plans before showtime.

After news spread that there were big changes made by Vince McMahon on this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw (June 19), find out what was reportedly originally set to happen.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, the original plans were written as ‘Seth Rollins vs. TBD’ with insiders revealing that TBD was originally set to be the returning Tommaso Ciampa.

With the first iteration of the plans having that match seeing “a ton of time”, and also interestingly, plans changed multiple times over the weekend before the show as well as in the hours before showtime.

Fascinatingly, “all of those originally planned for the match wanted the match to go through as planned,” per the report.

With yet others backstage spilling that “those around the match,” were clearly frustrated with the change, it seems there continues to be some on-going creative struggles in WWE.

Per the report, the decision to switch up the WWE World Heavyweight Championship open challenge match plans were a Vince McMahon call.

Instead of Ciampa vs. Rollins in a long and likely epic match, fans saw no WWE World Heavyweight Championship open challenge match occur, rather Finn Balor attack Rollins before the challenge could be answered.

Instead, The Miz came out to the Cleveland crowd and issued his own open challenge which was accepted by Ciampa, as the pair went on to have a good match.

Lastly in one final intriguing note from the Fightful report, Johnny Gargano was backstage in his hometown of Cleveland for Monday’s Raw, there has been internal plan to reunite Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano but still, no Gargano appeared.

Perhaps we’ll find out soon if Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa plan to bring their special brand of DIY to Raw or if Vince McMahon might have other plans in store entirely.
