Charlotte Flair has tipped a SmackDown star to do “big things one day” in WWE, as she names which stars on the roster she’d like to face off with in singles competition.

Charlotte Flair signed with WWE in 2012 and has risen to her prominent position on the roster, but has her eye very much on who is following in her footsteps.

During a recent appearance on WFAN, the fourteen-time World Champion was asked which stars she has chemistry with, and would like to face off against in the future, to which ‘The Queen’ responded:

“My little protégé over here, Kiana James is going to do big things one day. I’d love to have a singles with her, she actually beat me to go into the Elimination Chamber this year. So that didn’t go well for a couple weeks, I was like, ‘You know you took my spot.’

“Sol Ruca, I was in a fatal four-way for the Queen of the Ring spot, but I think a singles with her.

“One-on-one with Jade (Cargill), I still need to get revenge for what she did to Lexi last week, so stay tuned, everybody.”

The July 10 episode of WWE SmackDown saw Jade Cargill brutalize Alexa Bliss, using a steel chair on the star’s arm.

A Roster Awash With Possibilities

It would be easy to just put Charlotte Flair against other top stars in her division, seeing her face the likes of Rhea Ripley or Becky Lynch “one more time”, but looking at her recent matches reveals the direction being taken.

At the time of writing, according to Cagematch, Flair has been competing on the WWE Summer Tour house shows, with recent matches seeing her face Jacy Jayne or team with Chelsea Green & Tiffany Stratton to take on Fatal Influence (Jayne, Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid). All this while her television appearances have seen her team with the aforementioned Green & Stratton against Cargill, B-Fab & Michin, face Liv Morgan in the Queen of the Ring semi-final, and defeat Roxanne Perez on Raw.

Just looking at those results from mid-June to mid-July, it’s a busy time for the top WWE star who recently said that forty years of age is “new territory“.

This certainly isn’t a case of Flair passing the baton to the next generation of stars, but she clearly has a vested interest in seeing them rise to the top of the tree.

WWE have proven, over the years, that women’s wrestling, just as it is with the men’s roster, has plenty of opportunity for stars to move up, even if those spots are seemingly limited. While top stars may maintain their position for years, there’s always a need to find the “next big thing” and Flair being involved in that development cycle makes sense for all involved.
