A top WWE star has pitched the possibility of a romantic storyline, something that they’ve never experienced in their career.
Signed to WWE since 2012, Charlotte Flair’s career has seen her cover all bases – heel, face, champion and underdog – across a career that has taken her through NXT to the main roster and multiple WrestleMania moments, including main eventing the top PLE back in April 2019.
One thing that Flair has never had, however, is a romantic storyline, a topic that she would discuss during an appearance on WFAN, saying:
“So, I’m in a tag team with my best friend right now Alexa Bliss. That’s been awesome, special.
“I want to win number 15, that’s definitely on the list.
“But I’ve never been involved in like a romantic storyline or have been opposite a male character. So I think that would be cool.
“Or I’ve never led a group. Like there’s been the Four Horsewomen but we were all individuals, there wasn’t… I mean, I was number one, just kidding. But we were all equals.”

Flair would go on to address the host’s suggestion that Cody Rhodes could be the person for a romantic angle, responding:
“If it was Cody, I think it would be more about legacy and power versus romance. Second generation. His dad coached me, taught me. And then kind of the characters are similar in some ways. But it would be more for dominance and power kind of in an authority role versus a love angle.”

Flair winning her fifteenth World Championship would put her one step closer to breaking John Cena’s record, something that she has previously commented on achieving.
When it comes to intergender matches, Flair teamed with Bobby Roode as ‘Robe Warriors’ in the WWE Mixed Match Challenge back in 2018, losing in the final to Awe-Ska (The Miz & Asuka). The second season would see Flair team with Jeff Hardy (replacing AJ Styles) as Phenomenal Flair, falling short to The Fabulous Truth (R-Truth & Carmella) in the quarterfinals.

Love Is In The Air
Romance plays its part in WWE on a regular basis, with Maxxine Dupri recently aligning herself with The Vision thanks to her closeness to Austin Theory.
Elsewhere, there’s also the power couple of Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan, with Dupri sharing thoughts on comparisons to the Judgment Day members and throwing shade at the AAA Champion’s hygiene.
Even NXT isn’t immune to romance, with Vanity Project’s Jackson Drake finding a new “main squeeze” in the form of Myka Lockwood.
The idea of Flair with a romantic partner would be an interesting one, and something has been largely absent from any storyline involving the Four Horsewomen. Becky Lynch’s relationship with Seth Rollins is the only one that has been well acknowledged on WWE television, yet is used infrequently, with “hot husband” references being the main aspect.
As Flair suggests, a relationship with Rhodes would be more less about love and more about legacy. There is, however, an opportunity right there to create a modern Two-Man Power Trip, taking what Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin did in 2001 and giving it a longer run, with two top stars dominating their respective rosters and championships.
