A WWE star has told fans to be patient following Sami Zayn’s 9 day WWE Championship loss, as a long-term storyline is planned.
At WWE Night of Champions, Sami Zayn finally captured the Undisputed WWE Championship for the first time in his career, defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in the triple threat main event.
Sami’s reign would only last 9 days, with him dropping the title to CM Punk on last week’s WWE Raw show in Chicago upon Punk’s return to WWE television.
Fans have been critical of the decision to end Sami’s reign so soon, but a WWE name has said that there is a long-term story at play with the loss.
Michael Cole Says Long-Term Story Is Planned For Sami Zayn
Speaking on the Sal Licata Show, Michael Cole spoke about Sami’s defeat, noting that there is a long-term plan following the loss that he believes people will enjoy.
He said:
“I always ask our viewers to have patience, because there’s a long-term story arc with Sami that’s going to be playing out now over the fact he lost his championship.
“We always ask our viewers to be patient, because we are going to get there. We do 52 weeks of television for Raw and SmackDown every single year, so sometimes storylines might not progress as fast as the audience wants them to.
“Listen, audiences can have all the views they want, we can’t do this without them. Be critical about it, voice your opinions about it, but I really think people are going to enjoy where this Sami Zayn story’s gonna go over the next couple of months.”

Will Sami Zayn Regain WWE Championship?
With Roman Reigns and CM Punk now reigning as world champions in WWE, it seems as though the titles are now locked down for the foreseeable future.
While Reigns’ future plans will likely lead him to a showdown with Oba Femi, the WWE Championship remains more open ended on who could be the next champion after Punk.
When WWE announced WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh, fans began speculating that Sami could win his first WWE Championship at that event, with WWE reportedly initially planning to do so, but moving the win forward to Night of Champions.
If WWE does have a long-term plan in place for Sami, and he ends up getting the crowd back on his side, he could still end up regaining his title at WrestleMania in Riyadh, though that seems to not be a likely possibility.
