Sami Zayn has given an emotional response to losing his Undisputed WWE Championship to CM Punk in the main event of the July 6 episode of Raw.
On the Raw after WrestleMania 42, Punk told then Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes: “you never know when a championship opportunity is going to fall out the sky” – and almost three months later, that exact scenario happened in front of his home crowd in Chicago.
Replacing Cody Rhodes, who was attacked by GUNTHER backstage during the opening moments of Raw, Punk stepped up to challenge Sami Zayn, who was defending his Undisputed WWE Title for the first time just nine days on from winning it from “The American Nightmare” at Night of Champions.
To the delight of the Allstate Arena, it was a winning return for Punk, who after using Zayn’s own Helluva Kick, delivered a Go To Sleep to win his eighth world championship in WWE, and drastically shake up the SmackDown main event picture heading into SummerSlam on August 1 & 2.
While we now know that Punk will be making his first appearance as champion on this Friday’s episode of SmackDown in Oklahoma City, we now also have the first comments from Sami Zayn since losing the title he worked so long to capture.
In a post match interview captured as he walked back through the curtain, Zayn broke down into tears after questioning how WWE let Punk walk back into the company and immediately bring an end to his first run as WWE Champion.
Zayn said:
“I have a question. How is it that after 24 years of crawling and inching for every little inch to get the WWE Championship, after I finally get it, 9 days after I get, that piece of s**t can walk back in here after not being here for months, for months, and waltz right in and get a chance?
“That motherf**ker, he has no business, no business!”

Sami Zayn Not The Only One Who’s Upset By His Undisputed WWE Title Loss
While his comments are likely set to be fuel for his character development, it’s difficult not to feel for Sami Zayn after his loss to CM Punk on WWE Raw.
For the amount of time Zayn talked about never winning a world title, fans likely would have expected more than a nine day reign when the time finally came around.
As mentioned, this could serve as the perfect motivation for an even deeper descent into madness for Zayn, but it will only be viewed as a positive decision in the eyes of his “Ride or Die” fans if he eventually recaptures the Undisputed WWE Title.
Becky Lynch was perhaps the most notable WWE name to speak up and claim that Zayn had been “robbed,” something that does fit into her current character, but given their close relationship it’s likely not far away from her true feelings at the same time.
While not mentioning the result, Kevin Owens curiously did post a potential tease for a return to WWE following his best friend’s loss to Punk, something that is sure to get fans excited for a potential return of “The Prizefighter” – someone who is also, famously not much of a fan of the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
