‘It Clicked’ – The Undertaker Helped Current WWE Star Have Breakthrough Moment

A WWE main roster star has revealed that The Undertaker helped him have a breakthrough moment this year, where everything “clicked”.

Signed to a developmental deal in November 2013, Chad Gable would move to NXT as a member of American Alpha along with Jason Jordan, with his main roster call up seeing him go through a stage as Shorty G before finding further success as leader of Alpha Academy.

More recently, Gable has portrayed El Grande Americano, only surrendering the character due to a legitimate injury, and picking it up again to feud with Ludwig Kaiser’s iteration of the character.

With their feud ending in a mask vs. mask match, Gable would reflect upon that being a moment where it all clicked during an appearance on KFAN, saying:

“It’s wild because I’d say the biggest revelation I had was last month after I did this mask versus mask match in Mexico right? That was one of those ‘it clicked’ moments for me during my whole story in Mexico. But that’s like 13 years into my career, right?

“So like I had all these little breakthroughs along (the way) and you can be this far into your career and all of a sudden just realize things. It’s wild about that.”

Gable would go on to name The Undertaker as the person that made the realization possible, explaining:

“And Undertaker I think is responsible for a lot of that cause he was helping out down in Mexico, what we’re doing down there.

“He’s the one that finally got through to me, like the idea of stop thinking so much and just treat it as if everything you’re doing is real. Like as if you’re going out for an amateur wrestling match. Take that mentality into the fight, and when it worked and it clicked I was like ‘This is so great.’ It makes it so easy, you don’t have to think about a thing. You just go out there and do your thing and live in the moment. And like I said that was just like a month ago I came to that realization, so it’s crazy.”

Having lost his mask at Noche de Los Grandes on May 30 this year, Gable has returned to WWE television seeking to make amends with those he has wronged in the past.

Describing his recent work in WWE, Gable has stated that he feels “creatively fulfilled“.

‘Many Hands Make Light Work’

As proverbs go, ‘many hands make light work’ stands as an opposite to ‘too many cooks spoil the broth’, suggesting that difficult tasks can be achieved with ease when multiple people are working to achieve a common goal.

Such was the case with the mask vs. mask match at AAA Noche de Los Grandes.

While fans may have witnessed two El Grande Americanos in the ring performing at a high level in a match that Dave Meltzer would rate 5.75 stars in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, commentary did, as usual, a strong job of injecting even more depth into proceedings for fans watching at home.

The fans themselves had been invested in El Grande Americano to a whole new height after Kaiser adopted the character. Winning over the fans in Mexico was arguably quite the achievement for either star on a roster of popular luchador talent.

To hear that The Undertaker was part of a pivotal moment in Gable’s career, and for that to take place in AAA, likely comes as no surprise. The Hall of Famer has been instrumental in the careers of others for quite some time, serving as a mentor and coach on WWE LFG in addition to his AAA duties.

As previously, the match itself was produced by Pete Dunne, himself portraying Rayo Americano, a star who was recognized for his creative mindset long before he signed with WWE. For all the upside of having Dunne as an in-ring talent, there’s something to be said for the star serving in a backstage capacity, with a keen intellect to be tapped.

Hopefully, the match will be recognized for its quality long after all involved have moved on to new rivalries and programs.
