‘I’m Just Creatively Fulfilled’ – Chad Gable Addresses Current WWE Babyface Run, ‘Magic’ Way El Grande Americano Storyline Played Out

Chad Gable says he’s in “good spirits” after a wild month in WWE, which saw him compete in the most acclaimed match of the year and turn babyface for the first time in over two years.

After spending the entire second half of 2025 on the shelf due to a torn rotator cuff, Chad Gable returned to in-ring action during the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble, albeit under a mask, as he resumed his role as “Original” El Grande Americano.

This saw Chad Gable engage in a months long feud with the new El Grande Americano (played by Ludwig Kaiser) across WWE and AAA TV, eventually leading to a Mask vs. Mask Match between the two at AAA Noche De Los Grandes on Saturday, May 30.

The bout would be celebrated as one of WWE’s best in recent memory, and saw Gable unmasked to close out his chapter as the El Grande Americano character.

Now, that he’s back on WWE TV, Gable has been on an apology tour of sorts, making amends with the luchador stars that he wronged during his time under the mask, as well as, more recently, his former stablemates in Alpha Academy, with the latter yet to accept Gable’s change of heart.

Speaking with Good Karma Wrestling, Gable discussed the creative fulfilment he’s currently experiencing in his current WWE role:

“It has been just a wild month for me as you can imagine, as you might have seen. I’m in good spirits, I feel like I’m in some of the best headspace I’ve ever been in wrestling.

“Things have been up and down for a long long time, and right now I feel like we’re in just this awesome spot where I’m just creatively fulfilled. Just everything’s going well on the show, we’ve got some great stories going on and coming off the Mask vs. Mask Match that I was so proud of for so many reasons, and we’re in a good spot man. I’m so happy.”

Gable would then discuss the almost serendipitous way in which the El Grande Americano storyline panned out, noting how things could have played out very differently to how they ultimately did.

Gable said, when asked if he would have believed how the story would go when he was first pitched the El Grande Americano character:

“Not a chance, you know? No way. That’s the best thing, one of the best things I think about wrestling right, is you just never know. You never know what it is that’s gonna land, what it is that the audience is going to latch on to or why really.

“And when you really think about the path that we had to go on to get to that point, it would have never happened if it wasn’t for so many different variables there. Someday I think everyone will become privy to how many there actually were. There’s a lot more than people even know about.

“Something as obvious as my injury right? And me having to go away. If I hadn’t gotten injured, none of this would have taken the route that it did. And it’s just magic. That’s what wrestling is. The story’s not written from the beginning. The ending isn’t determined from the beginning. It’s like we can go a million different directions and sometimes it creates magic.”
