Who Was Behind Decision For WWE Star To Work Independent Show Revealed WWE

A backstage update has emerged on WWE’s interpromotional match announcement, with a current star set to wrestle at a major independent event.

WWE Raw star Shayna Baszler will appear for independent promotion GCW during WrestleMania 40 week, with Baszler officially announced for Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport X on April 4.

While Baszler appears to be the perfect fit for Bloodsport, a show which hosts matches in rings with no ropes with victory achieved through submission or KO, many were surprised that WWE was willing to let another company use one of their stars during WrestleMania 40 week.

Per Dave Meltzer in a Wrestling Observer Daily Update, this was a decision made by Chief Content Officer Triple H (Paul Levesque).

Meltzer wrote:

Regarding Shayna Baszler at Bloodsport and other WWE talent doing indie dates that week, we were told it was a Paul Levesque decision and that Paul Levesque has a different view on these things than Vince McMahon had.

As of writing, Baszler is the only WWE star announced for an independent show during WrestleMania week, however it has been hinted that more announcements could come soon.

WWE has already established several interpromotional partnerships this year, with WWE NXT star Charlie Dempsey having a brief tour with Japanese promotion All Japan Pro Wrestling, and TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace appearing in the Royal Rumble match.

Despite these cross-promotional partnerships, Triple H does not want the term ‘forbidden door’ to be associated with WWE. Triple H previously threw shade on this term, click here to read more.

A former WWE star has teased his return following WWE’s latest interpromotional announcement, which you can read more about right here.
