A major WWE cross-promotional match has been confirmed, with a notable NXT star set to compete at an upcoming All Japan Pro Wrestling event.
With it initially announced that a WWE NXT star would face the AJPW Triple Crown Champion at the promotion’s January 3, 2024 show, William Regal himself later announced that his son Charlie Dempsey would be the WWE representative for this match.
Dempsey didn’t know his opponent until Sunday (December 31), when Katsuhiko Nakajima was slated to defend his Triple Crown Title against Kento Miyahara at AJPW MANIAx.
Nakajima ultimately defended his title, meaning that he will face Charlie Dempsey on January 3.
AJPW has now shared a graphic for this interpromotional match, confirming the match-up, which you can view below.
WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels has now commented on this upcoming match, tweeting:
@WWENXT is about supporting and developing our young Superstars while evolving along the way.
Help me support #CharlieDempsey as he travels to @alljapan_pw for the Triple Crown Championship on January 3.
I couldn’t ask for a better Superstar to represent #WWENXT. Good luck!!
WWE stars have made rare appearances for other promotions under the Triple H regime, with Shinsuke Nakamura notably facing the Great Muta at NOAH The New Year 2023.
