The new #1 contender to the NXT Championship played a role in Carmelo Hayes’ tag match on tonight’s edition of NXT (July 11) with Judgment Day.
In NXT’s main event, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams took on Damian Priest and Finn Balor of Judgment Day after the show kicked off with an exchange between the main roster faction and the champ.
Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams appeared to interrupt with Hayes reminding Balor that he may have bested him on Monday Night Raw, but now, the Judgment Day is in Melo’s house.
As their tag team affair would be the night’s main event, Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio accompanied the faction to ringside and as ever, Ripley proved herself to be a valuable menace.
By coordinating a referee distraction by Dirty Dom, Ripley was able to sneak Priest his Money in the Bank briefcase near the end of the match.
While Priest attempted to clobber Melo however, out ran the new number one contender to the NXT Championship, Ilja Dragunov to attempt to stop Priest from using the weapon.
Earlier in the show, Ilja Dragunov beat ‘Badass’ Bron Breakker for the designation of becoming the new number one contender to Carmelo Hayes’ NXT Championship.
Whether he was trying to save Melo, prevent Priest from cashing in and potentially winning the NXT Championship right there, remains to be seen as inadvertently Hayes knocked down Dragunov.
It would be Carmelo Hayes who would take the pinfall victory as Judgment Day reigned supreme over NXT with potential to do so again next week.
