Lawsuit Filed Against On-Screen WWE Name WWE

A WWE name is being sued by an NFL great over ‘defamatory allegations’ made over a welfare fraud scheme according to reports.

The UK newspaper Daily Mail reports that Pat McAfee is one of the names being sued by Brett Favre over allegations made about the involvement of Favre in a $77m welfare fraud scheme.

A spokesman for the Green Bay Packers legend told the Daily Mail that:

“Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee tried to further their careers by making baseless defamatory allegations against Brett Favre.”

McAfee and Sharpe are both TV hosts for the NFL.

According to the report, Sharpe had referred to Favre as a “sleazeball” on his FS1 show in September, accusing the retired player of knowingly stealing $1.1 million in Mississippi welfare funds for speeches that Favre never made.

McAfee, who works as a commentator for WWE – although was absent for months until the Royal Rumble due to his College Gameday obligations – was said to have accused Favre of “stealing from the poor people of Mississippi.”

It is reported that Favre repaid his dept to the Mississippi Department of Human Services, though they did issue a new $5 million demand.

The Mississippi Department of Human Services states that this was due to Favre using the anti-poverty funds to pay for a volleyball area at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Favre is also suing Shad White, accusing the state auditor of failing in his duty as a state auditor and smearing Favre’s reputation as a private citizen.

Of the announcement of the lawsuit, Favre’s spokesman told Daily Mail that:

“Mr. Favre has spent his retirement from the NFL focused, on, among other things, helping people suffering from concussions.

“Sadly, Shannon and Pat have decided to spend their time making false public statements against Brett.”

According to the report, Favre is seeking nominal and general damages from Sharpe, McAfee and White, ‘including compensation for injury to Favre’s character and reputation’ and is seeking an unspecified amount for punitive or exemplary damages.

In October 2021, it was reported that WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase and his sons, Ted DiBiase Jr and Brett DiBiase, have been ordered to repay millions of dollars of ‘misspent or improperly dispersed’ welfare money to the state of Mississippi as part of the same scandal.
