Cora Jade Contacted Roxanne Perez The Day ROH Shutdown Was Announced WWE

WWE NXT stars Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez are currently at war with each other on NXT television, with them set for a Weapons Wild match against each other at tomorrow night’s NXT Halloween Havoc event.

Prior to their rivalry, the two were best friends both on and off television due to their similar age and background. Cora (then wrestling as Elayna Black) was signed to WWE back in January 2021.

In an interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Cora detailed her friendship with Roxanne, and how they spoke about one day making it to WWE together.

She said:

“Obviously, Roxanne and I have our differences now, but the reason we even became friends to begin with is because we had such a similar story and are close in age. She has the same passion as I do for this and it shows. That’s why we connected in so many different ways. I came in before her, but we were still close friends and text all the time. When we became tag champs, we went back in our messages with each other and we manifested this together. ‘We’re going to be tag champs, we’re going to do all this together. One day we’ll be like the next Sasha and Bayley.’ We had this dream to do it together. We set it out in our heads and now it’s unfolding in front of us. It’s crazy. She’s great,”

Roxanne remained in the independents after Cora was signed to WWE, notably going on to win the ROH Women’s Championship. Roxanne (then known as Rok-C) was the champion when ROH’s hiatus was announced back in October 2021.

Cora then told the story of how she immediately texted Roxanne the day the hiatus was announced, putting in motion her eventual WWE signing.

She said:

“I texted her that day [ROH went on hiatus]. We started talking and, to our luck, what we planned in our head even years ago, before I even got here, we talked about this. That day, I was like, ‘it’s time to make our plan come to life.’ Luckily, I was at her tryout and helped at her tryout. I was there helping because I wanted her there so bad. ‘Please let me help at this tryout. She’s coming. She’s mine, she’s my partner.’ It was great to be there and see her. She’s great,”

Roxanne attended the December 2021 WWE tryouts, before she signed with WWE back in March of this year. She lost the ROH Women’s Championship to Deonna Purrazzo in the main event of IMPACT Wrestling back on January 13, 2022.
