WWE Stars & Legends Pay Tribute To The Late Terry Funk

WWE stars and legends have paid tribute to the late Terry Funk.

On August 23, the wrestling world was saddened to find out about the passing of Terry Funk at the age of 79.

In response to the loss of such a respected legend, many of his peers and current wrestlers who were inspired by his career commented on what Funk meant to them.

One of Funk’s greatest rivals Mick Foley was one of the first to take to social media to express his love and appreciation for his friend. He wrote:

Terry Funk is gone. I just talked to Terry’s daughter, Brandee, who gave me the awful news. He was my mentor, my idol, one of the closest friends. He was the greatest wrestler I ever saw.

If you get the chance, look up a Terry Funk match or a Terry Funk promo, and give thanks that this incredible man gave so much, for so long, to so many. There will never be another like him. May God bless Terry, his friends, family and all who loved him. RIP my dear friend – it was an honor to know you. #RIPTerryFunk

In a followup tweet, Foley delivered a message on behalf of Funk’s family. He tweeted:

Hi, this is Mick. Terry’s daughters, Brandee and Stacy, I have asked me to let you know how much they appreciate all the love and support you have showed him over the years – and how much they appreciate your condolences and kind words now. #RIPTerryFunk

Meanwhile, another WWE star who worked with Funk is Triple H, who is now WWE’s Chief Content Officer. “The Game” took to social media to show respect to the legend, saying:

Every night in cities all over the world, Terry Funk left it all in the ring for our business and for the fans. An icon of our industry. My thoughts are with Terry’s family, friends and fans.

A current WWE star who was inspired greatly by Terry Funk’s career is Kevin Owens. The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion tweeted the following:

I don’t really come here ever anymore but I had to today to say that Terry Funk was the absolute best of us and that getting to be in the ring with him 10 years ago is and always will be one of the absolute highlights of my career, bar none.

To this day, I still often think back on that night and shake my head in disbelief at the absolute privilege and incredible luck I had to get to be in there with him.

The energy and aura that Terry Funk carried with him into the ring that night is something I had never experienced before and have not experienced since, and I’ve been in there with some pretty crazy names… I’ll never forget it.

Terry Funk.

Forever.

KO’s tag team partner Sami Zayn also took to social media to pay tribute to the former ECW Champion. He wrote:

Terry Funk was a truly unique performer for the ages that inspired and influenced so many, myself included. There was a passion and a sense of chaos in his work that was so beautiful to watch. My condolences to his friends and family. RIP.

Countless other WWE stars and legends took to social media to pay tribute and show respect to Terry Funk.
