While the WWE Championship currently only makes up half of the company’s top prize currently it looks like its own historic lineage is due a celebration after passing a significant milestone.
This week marks the 60-year-anniversary of ‘sports entertainments most prestigious title’ with WWE announcing a week’s worth of celebration to mark the occasion.
As stated on WWE.com, this will include content posted to WWE’s social media channels with the announcement giving insight on what to expect:
“Stay tuned to WWE’s social channels all week long to relive or discover for the first time the epic clashes, unforgettable moments and larger-than-life champions that have made the WWE Title an enduring force for more than half a century.”
“From special editions of WWE Top 10 and WWE Playlist, to original video features and never-before-seen photos, WWE Championship Week is not to be missed!”
WWE’s first upload from WWE Championship week was a top 30 countdown of the WWE Title’s best changes.
The countdown can be watched here, however, there was one notable but not overly surprising omission, that being CM Punk’s infamous win over John Cena at Money in the Bank 2011, which according to WWE was not good enough to make the cut clearly.
The most recent defence of the WWE Championship came at WrestleMania 39 where Cody Rhodes was defeated by Roman Reigns in the main event, you can find out the reaction to the match from six-time WWE Champion Steve Austin here.
