Gunther has reached 556 days as WWE Intercontinental Champion with his recent victory and Triple H has commented.
The WWE Intercontinental Champion faced The Miz on the December 18 episode of WWE Raw, with highlights below this news story.
The championship wasn’t the only thing that The Miz lost out on last night, with the stipulation being that a loss meant he wouldn’t be able to challenge Gunther for the title again.
In the wake of another successful defence, Triple H has reflected on Gunther as champion, tweeting:
“556 days and counting… and still getting better every day. “
This hasn’t been the first time that The Miz and Gunther have crossed paths, with Gunther retaining at WWE Survivor Series WarGames on November 25.
The Miz has also teamed with DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) to defeat Imperium (Gunther, Giovanni Vinci & Ludwig Kaiser) on the December 11 episode of WWE Raw.
For now, it seems that The Miz’s dream of most days as Intercontinental Champion and most reigns is at an end.
Gunther won the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the June 10 2022 episode of SmackDown, defeating Ricochet.
A further defeat over Ricochet on the June 24 episode of WWE SmackDown has seen Gunther successfully defend the title nineteen times to date.
