Two new WWE tag teams have been officially formed ahead of an upcoming tournament beginning this week.
After 2023 passed without one, NXT will once again host the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic once again; with the action kicking off with a pair of matches on on tomorrow night’s episode (January 9).
Ahead of the start of the tournament we have now received confirmation of the first two teams set to compete, courtesy of a post on the WWE NXT Twitter account.
The teams will be the odd-pairing of former bitter rivals Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker as well as exciting high flyers Axiom and Nathan Frazer.
One thing the announcement did not reveal however was the identities of both team’s opponents in the opening round of the tournament, with us all instead having to wait until NXT airs to find out.
Aside from 2017 and 2023, the Dusty Rhodes Classic has been a yearly tradition on the gold brand; with past winners including The Creed Brothers, Undisputed Era and AOP among others.
The winner of the tournament traditionally also receives a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships, which are currently held by The Family (Tony D’Angelo & Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo).
