On Raw, we had the incredibly explosive debuts of NXT stars Ember Moon, Authors of Pain, and No Way Jose along with several huge returns in Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, and Bobby Lashley.
On SmackDown Live, we got an admittedly brilliant debut from the Iconic Duo, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, as the newly rebranded Iconics… but was that it?
The pair made a statement cutting one of their patented heelish promos, trash-talking Charlotte as the old guard who needs to make way for the new, well, in their words, “the iconic.” Isn’t it weird that Charlotte is considered the old guard now? I feel older somehow. Anyway, the duo went on to mercilessly beat the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion down with repeated throws over the announcer’s desk and a double powerbomb to the outside.
Now, as much as I truly love Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, what gives, WWE? Where was SAnitY? Where were Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas and Zelina Vega? Hell, where were Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch on 205 Live?
It’s times like these when I have concern over how much Raw seems to be valued over SmackDown Live in the eyes of the company. I understand that the red brand has the extra hour, it is the flagship show, and that every brand is all technically under the same umbrella but a ratio of six to one – or two if you count The Brian Kendrick returning to 205 live – is a bit far.
We can only hope that with the Superstar Shake-up next week, a few more names from the black and yellow brand will stamp their mark on the main roster and hopefully, SAnitY will finally make their debut with a run-in from the crowd next Tuesday to turn the show on its head.
What were your thoughts on the NXT call-ups this week? Who do you think should’ve debuted that didn’t? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter here.
