Becky Lynch has defeated Charlotte Flair to win her second SmackDown Live Women’s Championship, following what was a pretty weird match.
Unfortunately it didn’t feel like the culmination of a blood feud. It was a decent match, but more of an elongated match if anything.
Becky targeted Charlotte’s arm throughout, but in the end it was some variety of roll-up that won the match. Charlotte went for a spear which Lynch countered into a pin, and the match ended with a dull thud.
The two still have a scheduled match at Super Showdown in October, and then we have Evolution three weeks later, so you’d assume there will be plenty more where that came from.
I can’t say I’m disappointed, because it’s good to see Becky Lynch with the belt, but for what the match should have been, it fell a bit flat and didn’t feel like the two women had been building to this match for weeks.
At least they didn’t hug at the end and declare themselves best friends again. Charlotte went to hold up Becky’s hand, but the new champ simply held her title in Flair’s face before departing the ring, leaving Charlotte alone in the ring. Safe to say she got no sympathy at all.
Yay for Becky.
