Punishment Martinez has finished his run with Ring of Honor and is headed to WWE, as reported by PWInsider.
Martinez dropped the ROH TV Championship to Jeff Cobb at the latest set of television tapings, ending his run with the company.
Martinez’s contract ran out in late August, however he elected to continue wrestling as a free agent. Now, with his Ring of Honor run having come to an end, it likely won’t be long before Martinez shows up at the WWE Performance Center.
Martinez, 36, made his pro-wrestling debut in 2004. After performing for over a decade on the independent scene, he competed in Ring of Honor‘s ‘Top Prospects’ tournament in 2016 where he lost to Lio Rush in the semi-finals. Following his defeat, Martinez signed with Ring of Honor and aligned himself with Kevin Sullivan and BJ Whitmer.
The only championship that Punishment Martinez held in Ring of Honor was the ROH TV Championship. He defeated Silas Young to win the title on June 16 this year, and managed to defend the title on numerous occasions. Martinez successfully retained the title against Hangman Page, Scorpio Sky, and most recently Chris Sabin at Death Before Dishonor. He finally lost the championship at the most recent set of Ring of Honor television tapings to Jeff Cobb.
PWInsider notes that sources have confirmed that there has been interest in Punishment Martinez from WWE and he is likely to start on the NXT brand soon.
