Got any plans for Sunday evening? Well, cancel them immediately, because the Royal Rumble is going to be really long.
The pre-show is set to start at 5pm ET (2pm PST, 10pm GMT) with the main show starting at 7pm ET (4pm PST, Midnight GMT). As a “big 5” pay-per-view, there is a two-hour pre-show, which this year features just two matches, so get ready for a lot of great Jonathan Coachman banter.
The main show is then scheduled to be around four hours long, but reports are that it could be as long as five hours, with WWE allowed to use the arena until Midnight ET (9pm PT, 5am GMT).
If it does max out its allowance, it could mean that we’re in for a seven hour show in total, which is WrestleMania levels of length.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote: “The Royal Rumble itself looks to be close to a six-hour show. Right now the plan is seven matches for the main card, which starts at 7 p.m. and can go as long as until midnight. Seven matches is a lot when two 30-person Rumbles on the same show would both be around one hour duration time.”
So, better get those snacks in, because it’s going to be a long one.
You can follow our live coverage of the Rumble throughout the show on our website, and there will be two reviews of the show up on YouTube on Monday.
