Impact Wrestling interestingly referenced All Elite Wrestling, and their Executive Vice Presidents: Cody and Matt and Nick Jackson in a backstage comedy segment on this week’s episode of TV.
Impact’s Glenn Gilbertti, formerly known in WCW as Disco Inferno, was seen walking backstage when he saw the backs of three figures that appeared to look like Cody and the Bucks. Gilbertti would ask ”Matt, Nick, Cody. Does AEW have any openings?” However, the trio would then turn around and reveal that they weren’t who the former WCW star thought they were.
Whilst this might just be a throwaway comedy segment with no hidden meanings, one can speculate that this could be Impact planting the seeds for a potential relationship with AEW. This is something that has been discussed given AEW performer Chris Jericho’s close relationship with Impact’s Co-Executive Vice President Don Callis.
Moreover, Cody wrestled for Impact upon leaving WWE between 2016-2018 whilst the Young Bucks performed for the promotion between 2009-2011, and also in 2013.
It remains to be seen whether AEW and Impact will agree upon a working relationship, but the fact that the latter is referencing the new promotion in backstage segments may lead us to speculate that a deal could be potentially reached.
