Okada and Sanada faced off the in final of the New Japan Cup, with the winner going on to face IWGP Heavyweight Champion Jay White at the G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden on April 6.
Okada would go on to win the bout, putting away Sanada with the Rainmaker after a gruelling 30-minute bout. Okada had gone through the likes of Tomohiro Ishii, Will Ospreay, Mikey Nicholls and Michael Elgin to get to the final of the New Japan Cup, with Sanada beating Hiroshi Tanahashi, Colt Cabana, Minoru Suzuki and Hirooki Goto to earn his place.
This match is just the latest of NJPW’s abundance of 5-star matches, and it’s quite clear there will be more to come. Considering the G1 Supercard features the best of NJPW and the best of ROH in Madison Square Garden on the night before WrestleMania 35, there’s every chance some more could be handed out then.
