In a YouTube exclusive interview with Cathy Kelley, John Cena discussed why he agreed to memorably bring back the ‘Dr. of Thuganomics’ at WrestleMania 35.
After admitting that he looked and felt ridiculous having stepped into the “2004 way-back machine”, Cena noted that there were plenty of stories that culminated on the show so he just wanted to do something brief that was fun for the audience.
Cena said he wanted to be part of the event but he did not want to do something via satellite, but because he has just wrapped a movie there was no time for him to prepare for anything more.
“That’s my one rabbit out of the hat, I don’t know what the hell I am going to do after this” he joked.
“For years my contribution on television has helped sell tickets to this event. This year that was not true. And it is still completely sold out and everyone is still completely on the edge of their seat. And I’ve said this since the day I walked in the door – the WWE does not need me or any one individual, it needs the fans.
I’m at a very good perspective with the fact that they don’t need me. They’re just fine without me. And I’m very grateful to be asked to be even a small part. So I’ll even break out the old school stuff just to be a part. I hope it meant a lot to them, because they’ll have no idea how much it meant to me.”
So does that mean Cena is done with WWE? Will he appear for the promotion even less in 2019? Let’s hope not.
