Becky Lynch has never shied away from talking candidly about her past battles with depression and this week she opened up about it again in an interview with People.
The Man talked openly about how an injury suffered in 2006 forced her to step away from wrestling and sent her into a spiral of depression. Despite the difficulties she endured, Becky describes herself as “grateful” for having gone through those hardships because it has made her appreciate where she is today:
“When I stepped away from it I just, I suffered from depression and always felt like I turned my back on this thing that I loved and this thing that has given me a purpose. I always felt like there was a part of me would fix it, and that part of me was this.
I’m really grateful for those years. At the time it was hard to see where it was going to go. Looking back I’m so grateful because I wouldn’t be where I am without having stepped away. And I also, want to have the appreciation that I do without it.”
Lynch also talked about how when she declared several years ago that her goal was to headline WrestleMania she was told to have more realistic dreams, proving that anyone can overcome anything and achieve anything with the right mindset and positive attitude.
