Perhaps it’s not all that surprising to hear, given how many people are asking for their releases from WWE, that morale is reportedly pretty low backstage.
In the last few months, Tye Dillinger, The Revival, Dean Ambrose, Luke Harper, Sasha Banks, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson and perhaps more stars have either been released, asked for their release, or refused to sign a new contract with the promotion.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez said that from what he hears, moral is possibly “the worst it’s ever been,” which is a pretty damning report on the current climate within WWE.
WWE remains in a stand-off with former women’s and tag team champion Sasha Banks, who requested her release from the company after WrestleMania. Current reports suggest that WWE is promising Banks a lot of things to try and get her to return, but right now there is no suggestion that the tension is going to ease.
Luke Harper, Vince McMahon’s least favourite person if reports are to be believed, asked for his release, a request which was answered by WWE adding 6 months onto his contract for the time he was off injured at the end of 2018.
So, making people stay when they don’t want to is making them unhappy? Who’d have thought that would be the case.
Seeing your fellow stars and friends being treated in this way is probably not the greatest morale boosters for other stars who may be feeling a bit disenchanted by their role in the promotion.
