The 50-man battle royal at yesterday’s WWE Super ShowDown event was genuinely one of the most enjoyable matches on the whole show. The decision to give Mansoor the win in his home country served as a rare “nice” WWE moment.
The match featured the likes of Ali, Cesaro, Ricochet, Elias, Samoa Joe and The Miz. However there was one notable omission.
R-Truth was previously announced for the match, with many fans and wrestling critics alike expecting a few 24/7 Championship title changes to take place during the bout. However, Truth and the 24/7 Championship were absent from the match, and the whole show for that matter.
R-Truth made the trip to Saudi Arabia, actually pinning Jinder Mahal to regain his championship at a point during the flight. However, WWE higher-ups made the decision to leave the veteran off the card.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the decision to pull Truth from the match was made simply because he is the 24/7 Champion.
WWE decided that putting Truth in the match wouldn’t work as everyone would have been trying to pin him. They thought that with 50 people in the ring, this would be very confusing for those watching at home or in the audience.
This is just baffling.
