Rey Mysterio is a legend of wrestling. It doesn’t matter who he has wrestled for in his career, he is without a doubt one of the most talented pro-wrestlers in history, and even at the age of 44, he can still go better than almost anyone on the planet.
Rey is currently halfway through a 2-year contract which he signed with WWE in October 2018, but there has been no suggestion that the luchador is planning on extending his stay.
One thing that might convince him to hang around is the future of his son Dominick, who seems to have signed some kind of contract with WWE and is heading into a storyline with his father.
Because of Rey’s popularity, if he was to leave WWE at the end of his contract next year, there would be plenty of names trying to snap him up, including AEW, whose vice president Cody has admitted that he would love to take Rey to AEW.
During his live show at Starrcast III, Cody said that he hopes WWE looks after Rey, or he’ll be swooping in to take him off their hands.
“I hope they do right by Rey, because if they don’t I’m gonna steal that son of a bitch right off of them. Hashtag contract tampering.”
Rey wrestled at All In last year in a fantastic tag match with the Lucha Bros, so already has a connection with Rhodes and the other AEW vice presidents.
For now we’ll just have to see whether Rey fancies another few years under Vince, or whether his body is keen on a change of scene as he winds down his career.
