On the Monday 22 October episode of Raw in 2018, Roman Reigns shockingly relinquished the Universal Championship after revealing that he had been diagnosed with leukemia.
The segment was one of the most emotional moments of not only the year, but of Monday Night Raw and WWE history.
Despite the clear severity of the situation, a few small minority of wrestling fans questioned if Roman actually had cancer. Some felt that after years of trying their best to get Roman Reigns over, WWE had resorted to faking that Roman Reigns had leukemia.
Obviously this was not the case, and Roman thankfully revealed a few months later that he was in remission. Roman is now a full-time member of the WWE roster once again.
Roman recently spoke very openly with Leukaemia Care. During the interview, Reigns addressed those fans who accused him of faking the illness:
“I think there is ignorance of leukemia. The word alone is intimidating. ‘Leukemia’ it sounds like a cancer word. It sounds like it could take your life. What people haven’t realized is the different phases. That’s the whole thing about me and this huge WWE platform, that’s why I want people to know. I want people to understand that it’s not what people see in the movies. We’re in a different place now; we are making advancements, there are things we are doing to help people and save lives – we just don’t always concentrate on those things.”
Roman went on to say:
