2019 has quite possibly been the greatest year in history in terms of in-ring wrestling action, and now yet another match has received a prestigious 5-star rating.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio last weekend, Dave Meltzer described Bandido vs. Dragon Lee in the PWG Battle of Los Angeles as a possible match of the year, and he has now given it 5 stars.
Here is Meltzer’s reasoning for the rating:
This was about as good of a 12:00 match as you could possibly see. It had super wrestling, super flying, insane spots, two super charismatic guys, and a crowd going nuts. I’d call it the best singles match I’ve seen since going to PWG and aside from the Young Bucks & Adam Cole vs. Will Ospreay & Ricochet & Matt Sydal match a few years back, and maybe the six-man tag this summer, one of the three best overall. Lee did the five rows deep tope. Bandido did the moonsault off the post where he just missed the overhang of the balcony. Lee went for his leap over the ropes huracanrana off the apron and Bandido blocked it. Lee had Bandido hanging from the corner outside the ring and came off the top rope with the Del Rio double foot stomp to the floor. I have no idea how he does this or why because the risk of a bad landing on your ankles when the ricochet off the other guy’s body is so high. Bandido did his reverse GTS, Lee did a German suplex, Bandido did a poison rana and a Spanish fly. Bandido did the fallaway off the top rope and Lee kicked out at one. Lee did a desnucadora off the top. Lee did a running knee and then went for the move that nearly ended Hiromu Takahashi’s career. Bandido blocked it, hit a Canadian Destroyer, the 21 suplex and a German supelx for the win.
Well there you go, more wonderful wrestling.
