WWE has provided an update on a star being removed from his announced match at WrestleMania 40 this weekend.
Originally announced was Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee taking on Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio .
However, that changed last night on SmackDown, as Andrade was revealed to be replacing Dragon Lee.
Essentially, Carlito claimed he found Dragon Lee being attacked by Santos Escobar backstage, but the idea seems to be that it was actually Carlito doing it out of jealousy, thinking if he took out Dragon Lee, he’d end up replacing him and being Rey’s partner.
Obviously, Rey chose Andrade over Carlito, so Carlito’s been overlooked once again and will probably try to get revenge on Rey and/or Andrade again at some point.
Nonetheless, WWE has now provided an update, writing a new version of its official preview for this match as follows:
At WrestleMania, Rey Mysterio will join forces with Andrade against his son “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio of The Judgment Day and Santos Escobar of Legado del Fantasma.
When Rey overcame “Dirty” Dom at WrestleMania 39, he thought he was finally done with their in-ring conflict. It wasn’t long before a new rival emerged when Escobar of The LWO viciously assaulted his mentor and unleashed a brutal surprise attack that injured the WWE Hall of Famer and caused him to miss significant time.
Three months later, Mysterio returned, and together with The LWO, he took out Legado del Fantasma and helped Carlito win a Street Fight against The Emperor of Lucha Libre. The rivalry continued between their two factions until Mysterio looked to settle the issue in a one-on-one showdown with Escobar. During the match, however, a masked figure emerged to interfere. He soon took off the mask and revealed himself to be Dominik, as Santos used the distraction to pick up the win.
The following week, Rey interrupted the gloating pair and challenged them to a tag team match against himself and Dragon Lee, the newest member of The LWO, on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
On the April 5, 2024 episode of SmackDown, Lee was shockingly taken out backstage. Surprisingly it was Andrade, who had just cemented his allegiance with the LWO that took Lee’s place, joining forces with The Master of the 619 and reuniting with Zelina Vega for WrestleMania.
Don’t miss the explosive action at WrestleMania on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, streaming LIVE at 7 ET/4 PT on Peacock in the United States and on WWE Network everywhere else.
We’ll keep you posted with all the news throughout WrestleMania weekend, so stay tuned.
