That really was little more than a squash match. Brock Lesnar retained his WWE Championship over Cain Velasquez by making Velasquez tap in about 4 minutes.
I don’t really know what I was expecting from the match, but it wasn’t what we got.
It started with a bit of grappling around the ring, a few punches here and there, and then Velasquez took Brock down with a well placed kick. Cain went for some ground and pound, but Brock locked him in the Kimura Lock and Cain tapped.
IT’S OVER.@BrockLesnar just made @cainmma TAP OUT to the #KimuraLock…but the punishment hasn’t ended! #WWECrownJewel pic.twitter.com/6xDNRCHXpP

This was bad.
The match seemed to be little more than a set up for Rey Mysterio to rain down chair shots on Brock to continue their feud.
The strange thing is that Rey is on Raw and Brock is on SmackDown, so if they want to continue the feud they’re going to have to break their rules again.
I guess there’s Survivor Series, the only night of the year when Raw and SmackDown stars go head to head in direct competition, but that’s generally reserved for champion vs champion matches for brand supremacy.
Cain Velasquez is probably heading off for a while for knee surgery, and it will be interesting to see what happens when he returns, and how the crowd receives him.
