At the beginning of 2019, Kenny Omega, Cody and The Young Bucks all left New Japan Pro Wrestling to set up their own promotion, All Elite Wrestling.
While AEW stars Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho have wrestled for NJPW, the two promotions do not have a working relationship at this point.
Following Kenny Omega’s entrance during this week’s AEW: Dynamite, it was rumoured that AEW and NJPW would be working together in the near future, with Kota Ibushi possibly working a few matches for AEW:
Dave Meltzer had the following to say in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter:
A video patterned after the character Sans has led to a lot of talk regarding a relationship between New Japan Pro Wrestling and AEW. The video, which played for Kenny Omega’s ring entrance on the 10/30 Dynamite show from Charleston, WV, had a message and gave a very cryptic message regarding Kota Ibushi and Omega. The video included a character of Ibushi holding his G-1 trophy. The rule of thumb with these guys is never do a tease that isn’t going to pay off”.
As Meltzer notes, AEW have yet to tease something that isn’t going to pay off later down the line. This certainly makes it seem as if AEW and NJPW will be working together in the future.
However, it is important to note that nothing is being officially reported at this time and this is just mere speculation. Stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com for the latest on a potential AEW and NJPW working relationship.
