Last month before New Japan Pro Wrestling’s King of Pro Wrestling event, Jon Moxley was stripped of the IWGP United States Championship. Moxley won the title on back in June from Juice Robinson.
The typhoon that hit Japan last month ensured that the former WWE Champion was unable to attend the show, forcing NJPW to strip him of the belt.
However, Dave Meltzer is reporting in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Moxley will likely be working either night one or two or NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 14 show in January 2020.
“It hasn’t been announced but the belief is Jon Moxley is working the Tokyo Dome. From those in AEW, they believe that to be the case but weren’t 100 percent on it.”
Lance Archer defeated former champion Juice Robinson last month at the King of Pro Wrestling event to win the vacant IWGP United States Championship.
Meltzer noted that NJPW might have Lance Archer defend his newly-won belt against Jon Moxley on the show. If this is the case, Mox is not expected to walk out with the win.
This comes after it was rumoured that NJPW might have AEW World Champion Chris Jericho defeat Hiroshi Tanahashi on night two of Wrestle Kingdom if he is still the new promotion’s top champion.
