In the opening match of WWE Worlds Collide, Ilja Dragunov went one-on-one with former Universal Champion and current NXT star Finn Balor. Despite not picking up the win, Dragunov looked fantastic in defeat.
This is not the only high profile match Ilja has had in recent months. Back in August at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff, Ilja Dragunov had a great showing against SmackDown star Cesaro.
It seems like WWE officials are desperately trying to get Dragunov over in a big way, and the reason for this might have just been revealed.
According to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, one of his sources told him that WWE COO Triple H is “obsessed” with Dragunov, perhaps explaining why he has been receiving a push in recent months.
Shawn Michaels is said to be 'big' on Jordan Devlin and wants him to defend the cruiserweight title across all brands [WON]
To add to that, I spoke to a WWE official in Texas who said Triple H is 'obsessed' with NXT UK's Ilja Dragunov.
2020 seems like a big year for these guys.

Also at WWE Worlds Collide, Jordan Devlin shockingly captured the NXT Cruiserweight Championship in a fun four-way that also featured Isaiah Swerve Scott, Travis Banks and defending champion Angel Garza.
It was reported last week that two-time WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, who is reportedly running NXT UK right now, is very high on Jordan Devlin and wants him to defend this title across all WWE brands.
Speaking of Devlin, WWE has confirmed that the Irishman will be appearing on both NXT and 205 Live this week.
