Jeff Hardy has announced that he has been cleared to return following an 11-month absence from WWE in-ring action due to injury.
Hardy underwent knee surgery in April last year just days after winning the SmackDown Tag Team Championship with his brother Matt, who is now no longer contracted to WWE after his deal expired on March 1.
Jeff originally signed to the same date, but, as reported by Fightful, WWE has added at least a year to his contract because of his time off. He noted that he hasn’t really spoken to Matt about his situation so couldn’t offer any insight into his future.
During his period away from the ring, the ‘Charismatic Enigma’ was arrested twice – for Public Intoxication in July, and for Driving While Impaired in October.
He revealed on WWE Backstage that the morning after the second of those arrests, he entered inpatient rehab for the first time ever, which is fantastic to hear. He is due in court on April 6 regarding that charge.
According to reports, Hardy has been backstage for at least the last two episodes of SmackDown, so it looks like he’ll be returning to the blue brand when he’s back on TV. He added in the interview that he’s just waiting for creative direction and then he’ll be back.
