WWE made news recently for banning the Buckle Bomb. This came after Kairi Sane appeared to narrowly avoid being injured from the move delivered by Nia Jax.
While Nia Jax may be the focus of a lot of injury talk recently, Seth Rollins most notably made the move infamous by injuring Finn Balor and Sting. Unfortunately, the injury ended Finn Balor’s run as Universal Champion and Sting’s in-ring career.
On Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray shared his opinions of the move being banned:
“Do I agree with a move being banned? I’m not quite sure. What I do agree with is the WWE is trying to protect their talent, that’s what I agree with. Because whether it’s somebody giving it or taking it, enough things have gone wrong with this move, it doesn’t matter who we point the finger of blame on…right off the bat, the chances for something to go wrong are very high.”
He continued:
“The person doing it is not going to throw from the exact some spot every single time, the person taking it is not going to land the exact same way every single time.”
I’m no wrestling genius, but it seems like the second statement could be made about every wrestling move. However, I get his point. When you’re going neck first backwards into an object that is meant to not move, then that’s probably a dangerous proposition.
And, protecting your wrestlers should be a major focus. You can listen to the entire session below.
