10. Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega – AEW Full Gear
When Jon Moxley left WWE, there was a lot of curiosity about what kind of matches we would see. To date, his match with Kenny Omega at AEW Full Gear is the most extreme example of what he is capable of.
This match is very hit or miss with people. Most seem to either love it or hate it with very few in between. Regardless of your thoughts on hardcore wrestling, this is a very big part of who Moxley is. If you are looking to get the full picture of the man, this is a must-watch.
9. Jon Moxley vs. Joey Janela – AEW Fyter Fest 2019
Similar to the last entry on the list, Moxley’s first match in AEW should be watched to be understood. This is a man freed after having been in WWE for nearly a decade. He was able to flex his creative muscles and have a fun if slightly hard to watch match with Joey Janela.
A good portion of this list will be from Moxley’s run post-WWE as it shows him reinvigorated. This match is a great example of that. Dean Ambrose was truly no more and now Moxley was back to do things his way.
8. Jon Moxley vs. Shingo Takagi – NJPW G1 Climax 29 Day 8
While many of Moxley’s most high-profile matches in AEW have come in more violent situations, his time in New Japan Pro Wrestling has been defined by stellar performances. Such was the case for his G1 Climax match with Shingo Takagi. Takagi emerged as one of the most dynamic in-ring performers in the world in 2019 and Moxley took him to the limit.
All of Moxley’s matches are hard-hitting. That goes without saying. However, he was forced to step up to another level when clashing with someone like Takagi. The G1 Climax is where weaker performers can get exposed but that was not the case with Jon Moxley. The brawler had some of the best performances of his career and fit right in with New Japan’s best.
