The first all-female pay-per-view event in WWE, Evolution, took place on October 28, 2018 at the Nassau Coliseum in New York. The show was headlined by a Raw Women’s Championship match between Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella.
While we may not have seen Evolution II last year, it was reported earlier this week that WWE may actually be planning a second Evolution show for August 30 of this year, the weekend after SummerSlam.
If this is indeed the plan, which we hope it is, here is a list of the five dream matches that WWE NEEDS to book on the show. If you think we’ve missed any out, feel free to let us know over on Twitter.
5. Io Shirai (c) vs. Rhea Ripley – NXT Women’s Championship
Yes, NXT may have mishandled Rhea Ripley since WrestleMania 36, but she still has the potential to be a top player in the women’s division in both NXT and on either Raw or SmackDown.
Next week on NXT, Io Shirai is going to defend her NXT Women’s Champion in Tegan Nox. Following a successful title win, Shirai should be attacked by Ripley, turning the Australian heel in the process and beginning the path to her redemption.
NXT has a ready-made story that Rhea has gone on a downwards path since losing the NXT Women’s Championship to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania. A heel Rhea Ripley, who is focused on reclaiming her title, could be exactly what NXT’s women’s division needs right now.
When you look at the names on the roster, and it is a very stacked roster, there is no bigger women’s match that NXT could book right now than Rhea Ripley vs. Io Shirai, so a match between the two seems like the right thing to do at a potential Evolution II show next month.
4. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross (c) vs. Lita and Trish Stratus – Women’s Tag Team Championships
At the first Evolution show, Alexa Bliss was set team with Mickie James to take on the duo of former Women’s Champions and Hall of Famers, Trish Stratus and Lita.
However, at the time, Alexa was dealing with several concussion-related issues, and was unfortunately pulled from the show at the last minute, something she recently opened up about. She was replaced in the match by Alicia Fox.
If there is a second Evolution pay-per-view next month, it would be great to see Alexa Bliss get to share the ring with Trish and Lita after her heartbreak in 2018, and a clash over the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships seems like the right call to make.
When Bayley and Sasha Banks eventually do drop the Women’s Tag Team Championships, it will likely be to Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, and looking down at the roster, it seems like this might be the match to bring back some of the legends for.
Seeing Trish and Lita go for the titles at the all-female pay-per-view event would be awesome, and seeing Cross and Bliss get to share the ring with the two legends would be fantastic.
