It must not be fun to fight a losing battle. By all accounts that is what WWE has been doing since October on Wednesdays. With rare exception, AEW Dynamite has dominated the Wednesday Night War, leaving WWE to feel very unhappy with the NXT ratings.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that the unhappiness should come more from being unable to draw viewers under 50 than losing the actual battle. Here is the quote:
“Although nobody will say it, there is a lot of unhappiness about losing in the ratings every week. The unhappiness shouldn’t be losing as much as the complete inability to draw those under 50. NXT has always had writers but they were people who were on the main roster writing team who would also help write NXT.”
The most recent set of ratings for NXT and AEW had Dynamite way out in front. Historically, AEW will win every demographic except 50+, although they have been nipping at NXT’s heels in that demo of late as well.
It is no secret that Vince McMahon hates losing and it should be no surprise that this extends to this battle.
