It is being reported by Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT that Vince McMahon told Randy Orton to make Keith Lee look like “a star” before their one-on-one match at Payback last night.
In case you missed last night’s show, it took former NXT Champion Keith Lee just six minutes to defeat multi-time WWE Champion Randy Orton clean in the ring, just six days after his main roster debut.
In case a clean win over Randy Orton six days after your main roster debut wasn’t enough, it has been reported that Orton was told by Vince McMahon to “make Keith Lee a star” during last night’s match.
A company source reached out to talkSPORT after the event and said Vince McMahon had tasked Orton with making Lee a star before the match.
“Imagine how high Vince has to be on someone to have Randy Orton put them over clean as a whistle. Orton, doing the best work of his career, wants to help create that next generation of stars. He gets it.”
While fans might not be best pleased about Keith’s new ring gear and entrance music, they should certainly take solace in the fact that Vince McMahon reportedly wants to push Keith Lee right to the top of WWE:
The source said McMahon wants to ‘push Lee to the moon’ and he thought Orton was the perfect foil for him to do that right now. It seems Orton was only too happy to go along with the boss’ orders, as you’d expect.
WrestleTalk exclusively reported that Randy Orton wanted to work with NXT talent at SummerSlam several weeks ago, so he was likely incredibly happy to work with and put over Keith last night at Payback.
