Ric Flair Calls His WrestleMania XXIV Performance ‘Average At Best’

One of the best WrestleMania moments was the closing seconds of Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XXIV. As Flair got to his feet in his retirement match, Michaels told him “I’m sorry, I love you” a put him away with a Superkick.

It was a magical moment but now Flair has said he thinks his performance was average at best. Speaking with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Flair let his feelings be known about his last WrestleMania match. Here is the quote, courtesy of Wrestle Zone:

“People were going, ‘God, it was a great match,’ and to me, I was average at best, Shawn was great. I didn’t think it was great. But I think the emotion was at a very high level because it was real. You can’t ever act out or put emotion in places it’s not real. So it was very real for me, and it has been for years.”

This would ultimately be the final WWE match in the career of Ric Flair. He would go on to wrestle a handful of matches with TNA a few years later but his final moment in a WWE match was shared with the Heartbreak Kid.
