During an appearance on the ROH Strong podcast, former WWE writer Kevin Eck opened up about his time with the company, and how his efforts to help the women’s division weren’t aided by Vince McMahon.
Eck noted that Vince McMahon told the WWE creative team that nobody wanted to see women fighting instead of the men, which meant he faced an uphill battle when trying to help with women’s division:
“Me and some of the other writers were trying to get the women’s division of being a little more than just two minutes. We had Natalya and Beth Phoenix. Vince said nobody wants to see the girls fight over the guys, so it was a losing battle”
During the same interview, Eck opened up about how the creative team were told to not pitch using a Performance Center trainer/coach on television under any circumstances. You can read more about that by clicking here.
It seems like Vince’s mind may have changed slightly, with Charlotte Flair one of the most protected stars in WWE right now, and Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch and the aforementioned Flair main eventing WrestleMania 35 in 2019.
