Theory: Adam Pearce Not Challenging Roman Reigns At WWE Royal Rumble

Last night on Friday Night SmackDown, Adam Pearce won a Gauntlet match by pinning Shinsuke Nakamura to earn a shot at Roman Reigns and the Universal Championship at the WWE Royal Rumble.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that it’s possible that Adam Pearce won’t actually be the person facing Roman Reigns by the time the pay-per-view rolls around.

“It’s possible that they’ll change it back to Kevin Owens because it seems like a strange match to make; because if they do that it pretty much tells you that they literally have no ideas at all. I’m not ruling out that they’ll go back to Kevin Owens.”

This would make sense, as prior to last night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, many people were certain that Kevin Owens would challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at Royal Rumble.

It’s important to note that this is just theory/speculation at this point, and Dave Meltzer IS NOT reporting that Adam Pearce definitely isn’t going to be in the title match with Roman Reigns at the pay-per-view.
