It seems like New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) may be starting a new working relationship with a US promotion.
Writing in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that NJPW Strong, the promotion’s US television show, was being promoted during the IMPACT Wrestling nostalgia show this week:
During Impact’s nostalgia show on AXS, which airs from 10-11 p.m., before the Impact replay on Tuesdays, they aired a graphic for New Japan Strong airing Fridays at 10 p.m. on New Japan World. It wasn’t a commercial in the show but a graphic during a match on the show. This would seem to indicate some sort of tie-in with New Japan and Impact. We do know that AXS has wanted New Japan back but that the television deal in the U.S. is not with AXS, and is expected to be announced within the next ten days.
This comes after a member of the IMPACT roster revealed that IMPACT and NJPW higher-ups worked together to get him involved with the Super-J Cup that took place last month. You can read more about that by clicking here.
This would be another big get for IMPACT Wrestling, who have seemingly started a working relationship with AEW over the last month or so. Their main event of Hard To Kill tomorrow will feature AEW World Champion Kenny Omega.
