A WWE NXT star has explained that he’s “not looking to main event WrestleMania”, and has other goals for his career.
Timothy Thatcher is known for his gritty style in the ring, and that seems to be an attitude he adopts outside the squared circle to.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Thatcher opened up about his career and aspirations, saying:
“I have to stick to my guns. For me, this has to be authentic. I need to do this the way I think it should be.
“I want to pay homage to the people that don’t get the respect they deserve. If I can pay a little homage to them, I’ll consider this all a success. And the Fight Pit is a wonderful opportunity to do that because it lets me be in my element.
“I still don’t have any aspirations for fame. I’m not looking to main event WrestleMania. I’m looking to get my point across.”
Thatcher also spoke about how he got his start in wrestling. He said:
“I became a referee. It was a new adventure. Since I wanted to be properly trained for the job, I took all the wrestling classes.
“I was picking it up too quickly. So I was asked to wrestle, and that’s how I got my start.
“One thing led to another, and it grew bigger and bigger. I never thought I’d be in WWE. I never thought I’d wrestle for EVOLVE or wrestle in Germany. But as the adventure continues, that’s the way it’s been. And I made the decision that, if I was going to uproot my life to do this, I would do it the way I believed it needed to be done.”
Thatcher will be in action on tonight’s episode of NXT in a Fight Pit match against Tommaso Ciampa. We’ll have live coverage of the show here at WrestleTalk.com.
