The Royal Rumble is one of the most unpredictable matches WWE has to offer. With 30 men in one match, you never know what’s coming next.
Every Rumble has a moment that will have you jumping out of your seat. Here are 10 Royal Rumble spots that you need to re-watch.
10. John Cena and Batista Eliminate Each Other – 2005
In the 16 years since, the series of events concluding the 2005 Royal Rumble haven’t gotten any less insane.
After a competitive back-and-forth between the final two competitors, Batista lifted John Cena up in powerbomb position. To escape, Cena threw himself over the top rope, still attached to his rival.
Both competitors fell to ringside, hitting the floor at the exact same time.
As referees argued over who won the match, Mr McMahon stormed towards the chaos. The Chairman tore both quadriceps trying to enter the ring, leaving him unable to stand.
McMahon listened to Cena and Batista argue their cases, before the match was restarted. Batista legitimately eliminated John Cena as The Chairman was being helped to the back.
With such an eventful conclusion, the 2005 Royal Rumble will always be remembered for Batista and Cena’s accidental perfect timing.
9. Bianca Belair Bests Alexa Bliss By A Hair – 2020
Heading into the 2020 Royal Rumble, Bianca Belair was one of the hottest acts in NXT. Possibly the most athletically gifted wrestler in WWE, The EST had a dominant showing in last year’s 30-woman match.
Alexa Bliss was the biggest thorn in Belair’s side, using her wits to take advantage of the Performance Center trainee. This culminated with a battle on the apron to determine the superior competitor.
Just as Bliss was about to fall to the outside, the former Women’s Champion grabbed a handful of Belair’s ponytail. The EST’s hair was the difference between staying in the Royal Rumble and being eliminated.
Interestingly, Belair used The Goddess’ tactic against her, pulling on her own braid to throw Bliss to the mats below.
The EST eliminated 13 women during the 202o Royal Rumble, but I’m sure no elimination was as satisfying as disposing of Little Miss Bliss.
8. Passing The Torch – 2018
The Royal Rumble is the perfect opportunity for up-and-coming competitors to face off against wrestling legends. In the 2018 Royal Rumble, the battle lines were drawn between stars of past eras, and current fan favourites.
Towards the end of the match, 6 competitors chose their allies. John Cena sided with Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio, all wrestlers who made their names in the early 2000s. Finn Bálor sided with Roman Reigns and Shinsuke Nakamura, all competitors that had become popular more recently.
It didn’t take long for a war to break out. While the all-star team got the upper hand early, the new generation wrestlers retaliated, eliminating Orton.
This back and forth became chaotic when Mysterio turned on his makeshift partners, before being eliminated by Bálor. With the ‘every man for themselves’ mentality surrounding the Rumble, it was interesting to see these six icons pick sides.
