Taking to his ARN podcast, WWE Hall of Famer and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) on-screen character Arn Anderson has made some controversial remarks about WWE’s use Bad Bunny over the last month.
Speaking about how WWE likes to bring in celebrities for some mainstream appeal over WrestleMania season, Arn Anderson explained that fans don’t tune into WWE shows to see celebrities they want to see wrestlers:
“I don’t know anything about Bad Bunny. If they’re not big fans, what are they doing on our show? Wrestling fans are dedicated to a wrestling show and wrestlers. They are not there to see Hollywood stars or anything of that nature. It’s an aggravation to them when they don’t know who it is, if I don’t know who it is I just watch their performance on the show and critique it for what it is.”
“[Wrestling fans] get pissed because it’s down time. The celebrities that we’ve had over the years had nothing to do with wrestling whatsoever, you can just see it from the fans. The fact is there’s a place, it’s called the rest of the world that’s not America, and if he’s a big star, there’s probably a reason for it.”
Fans have been quick to point out the hypocrisy in Arn Anderson’s comments, with AEW just a few weeks away from putting on a Dynamite match with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, which will be only his second wrestling bout.
The decision to bring in Bad Bunny certainly makes a lot of sense for WWE and has seemingly paid off, with the famous rapper bringing in over $500,000 in merchandise for WWE since his first appearance at the Royal Rumble last month.
