It has emerged that Tony Khan tried to talk a couple of AEW stars out of doing certain things during their match, but they talked him around.
The unsanctioned match between Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa made headlines and trended on social media for a number of reasons, but it could have played out slightly differently than what we saw.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote:
In the last week’s Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa match, Tony Khan tried to talk them out of doing a few things but Baker and Rosa both talked Khan and Jerry Lynn (the producer of the match) to allow them to do what they wanted
After the match, AEW released footage of Tony Khan praising Baker and Thunder Rosa, as well as Baker saying she was aiming to get a five-star match from Meltzer. He gave it 4.75 stars.
Thunder Rosa picked up the win, but the match didn’t count towards AEW’s official win/loss records due to the unsanctioned stipulation.
